Magnetic properties and the metal-insulator transition in CuIr2S4-xSex
with x=0.0, 0.1, and 4.0 were investigated. CuIr2Se3.9Se0.1 exhibits
a transition from paramagnetism (M/H=+1.3X10(-7) emu/gG) at higher tem
peratures to diamagnetism (M/H=-1.5X10(-7) emu/gG) at lower temperatur
es and exhibits hysteresis on heating and cooling. The transition on w
arming in CuIr2S3.9Se0.1 occurs at a lower temperature (200 K) than in
CuIr2S4 (218 K) and is not observed in CuIr2Se4. (C) 1996 American In
