Graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate onto sisal fibers using
potassium persulfate initiator was studied. The effect of the initiato
r concentration, monomer concentration, reaction time, reaction temper
ature and pH, oil the grafting percentage, grafting efficiency and tot
al conversion has been investigated. The surface topology, as well as
the S-ray diffraction patterns of the modified. fibres were also studi
ed. Moreover, the dyeing characteristics of the grafted fibers when dy
ed with basic dyes together with tile color fastness of these dyes tow
ards UV radiations and boiling water were investigated.
