J. Lede et al., THE CYCLONE, A REACTOR FOR SUBLIMATION - SUBLIMATION OF ISOCYANURIC ACID, Chemical engineering journal and the biochemical engineering journal, 62(1), 1996, pp. 13-21
The purpose of the present paper is the experimental and theoretical s
tudy of the behaviour of the cyclone for carrying out the fast sublima
tion of solid particles. The experiments are performed with isocyanuri
c acid that sublimes at 633 K. They show that the phase change may rea
ch 99% efficiency in less than 1 s for particles smaller than 80 mu m
and for wall temperatures higher than 1000 K. A first model using the
heating and sublimation times of the solids and taking into account th
eir initial size distribution gives results in a good agreement with e
xperiments. It is possible in a second model to gather all the experim
ental results by using a unique particle size, the process then being
characterized by sublimation and heat exchange time constants.
