The components and functions of college students' attitudes toward AID
S were investigated. Results indicated homophobia, fear of death, and
a defensive attitude were predictive of a fearful attitude toward AIDS
. Men were more defensive, more homophobic, less knowledgeable about A
IDS, and less fearful of death than women. Racism, homophobia, and def
ensiveness were positively correlated. Implications for counseling and
educational programming are discussed.
