Recent advances in the surgical management of otosclerosis include the use of lasers, particularly for work on the stapes arch, footplate, a nd oval window. Although excellent results are obtained with various t echniques, lasers have several theoretical and practical advantages. T his article covers the reasons for using lasers for primary and revisi on stapes surgery, including the pros and cons of lasers and mechanica l techniques.
