Composite germanium monochromators are in the beginning of their appli
cation in neutron diffraction. In order to optimize their properties f
or high-resolution neutron powder diffraction we significantly improve
d the alignment procedure of the individual wafers used for building t
he monochromator plates, as we added the tin necessary for soldering w
ith a sputtering technique instead of tin foil spacers. Sputtering cou
ld also be replaced by evaporation giving similar results.
