The paper presents an application oriented procedure for solving the p
roject management duration/resource tradeoff problem. A procedure is p
resented for reducing a project from a normal to a crash duration stat
e at a minimum amount of additional resource expenditure assuming a li
near utilization functions. The procedure is network based using a gra
phical Cut Search Approach to locate the minimal resource level at eac
h reduction in total project duration. Activity-on-are networks and ho
w networks are utilized. The paper is presented for practical applicat
ion and for conceptual development as compared to a theoretical treatm
ent.
