Data on 679 lactating Hariana cows under farmers' herd in the central
breeding tract were collected through recording test-day milk yield at
monthly interval. Out of 679 cows 209 completed lactation during the
period of study. Amongst various prediction equations developed, the o
ne recommended (R(2) = 87.62%) for milk recording in the field was -4.
54+/-78.56, Y-1 +57.48 Y-3 and 94.0 Y-6 where Y-1, Y-3 and Y-6 are tes
t day milk yield in months 1, 3 and 6 of lactation respectively. Lacta
tion milk yield of incomplete 470 lactations was predicted depending u
pon number of test-day records. The least-square means for lactation m
ilk yield, lactation length, MY/LL and postpartum open period were est
imated as 1054 9+/-14.93 kg, 220.0+/-3.95 days, 4.6+/-0.10 kg and 81.4
+/-2.89 days respectively. All these traits were significantly influen
ced by season of calving, whereas parity had significant effect on lac
tation milk yield alone.
