Oxygen-conducting solid electrolytes, based on the tetragonal modifica
tion of zirconium dioxide in the ZrO2-Er2O3 and ZrO2-Yb2O3 systems, ar
e synthesized and investigated. Tetragonal solid solutions are found t
o exist in these systems at the R(2)O(3) content ranging from 2.5 to 5
mol %. These solutions have a very high electroconductivity, which at
low temperatures exceeds that of electrolytes with the fluorite struc
ture. The influence of the stabilizing cation size on transport proper
ties of the solutions is discussed.
