The anodic reaction and homogeneous oxidation of the Ph(4)B(-) tetraph
enylborate anions (Ph = C6H5) are studied by the electrochemiluminesce
nce (ECL) technique. Anodic ECL of a number of electrochemiluminophore
s is discovered during electrolysis by a unipolar pulsed or constant v
oltage in a volumetric cell with ordinary electrodes. The ECL of 1,5-d
iphenyl-3-styrylpyrazoline in conjunction with Ph(4)BNa, and the calcu
lated parameters of the ECL diffusion kinetics demonstrate that the ne
ar-anode ECL is caused by a strongly exothermic interaction of electro
generated radical cations with the Ph free radicals. The latter are in
termediate products of homogeneous oxidation of Ph(4)B(-) by the radic
al cations.
