A 62-year-old man developed a slowly growing mass at the anterior aspe
ct of his left scapula. His symptoms suggested a scapulohumeral arthro
pathy, A biopsy established the diagnosis of muscular metastasis with
large, undifferentiated cells consistent with a bronchial primary. Mus
cular metastases are infrequent (255 cases in the literature) and ofte
n occur as the first manifestation of cancer. Symptoms are sometimes m
isleading.
