Thirty horses qualified for inclusion in a study of distal interphalan
geal lameness. Cases were drawn from horses presented for lameness eva
luation at the University of Minnesota and the Rochester Equine Clinic
between January 1991 and August 1993. Selection was based on the foll
owing criteria: (1) Acute or chronic grade II-III/V lameness that was
referable to the distal interphalangeal joint by intra-articular anest
hesia, (2) no evidence of infectious synovitis, (3) no evidence of fra
cture or osteochondral fragmentation.
