We propose in this work a road traffic emission source inventory model
and its application to the Paris region. The originality of this mode
l is its capacity for dealing with on-road scale measurements together
with more global information on transportation fluxes which are usual
ly extracted from statistical population data representative of larger
areas. In this approach, emission Factors have to be carefully chosen
. The model uses specific exhaust emission factors based on real drivi
ng modes and on a representative vehicle fleet. This task generally re
quires a great deal of traffic density and speed data for accurate emi
ssion calculations. Extrapolations over time and space are used to app
roximate missing parameters. Such a model offers a refined description
of emission fluxes and can be applied to perform sensitivity tests an
d vehicle evolution impact studies. Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier Scienc
