A new method for the comparison of two crystallographic textures is de
veloped and tested. The method is based on the linear regression proce
dure. We compare it with other methods and show its advantages. The me
thod may be applied for the comparison of pole figures or orientation
distribution functions. It has advantages when unnormalized and uncorr
ected pole figures are compared. The method is especially useful for c
omparison of 'on-line' measurements, for the comparison of incomplete
diffraction data and for comparison of calculated textures with measur
ed textures.
