An experimental investigation into the phase equilibria and stability
of the Ti(Cr,Al)(2) phase, having a C14 crystal structure, was conduct
ed. It was discovered that the Ti(Cr,Al)(2) phase has a maximum solubi
lity into the ternary system of about 42 at. % Al, with Al substitutin
g for Cr, and a width of about 1 to 3 at. % Ti. Partial isothermal sec
tions at 1000 degrees C and 800 degrees C have been constructed, as we
ll as a schematic of the beta-transus as a function of temperature and
composition. The change in the lattice parameters and hardness of the
Ti(Cr,Al)(2) phase with composition have been determined. The obtaine
d results are compared with previous evaluations.
