Vp. Ghiya et al., BIODEGRADABILITY OF CELLULOSE-ACETATE PLASTICIZED WITH CITRATE ESTERS, Journal of macromolecular science. Pure and applied chemistry, A33(5), 1996, pp. 627-638
Cellulose acetate (CA) was melt compounded with two different citric a
cid esters: triethyl citrate and acetyl triethyl citrate. It was obser
ved, based on the glass transition temperatures, that both plasticizer
s were miscible with CA. The addition of plasticizer reduced the tensi
le modulus and increased the elongation of CA. The biodegradation rate
s increased dramatically with an increase in plasticizer content.
