Abstract
In this paper, experimental investigations are reported on the unwindi ng process of a planar long pitch S-C phase under DC and AC electric fields. The investigations are carried out on a cell with a spacing of 50 mu m. The DC critical fields (E(dc)) for unwinding the helical tex ture are measured at different temperatures. Three patterns of electro hydrodynamic instabilities are found to exist under AC electric fields .
