U. Hornung, MATHEMATICAL ASPECTS OF INVERSE PROBLEMS, MODEL CALIBRATION, AND PARAMETER-IDENTIFICATION, Science of the total environment, 183(1-2), 1996, pp. 17-23
In this overview we consider three major aspects of modelling, namely
the variety of competing models (the 'model zoo'), the aspect of scale
s (averaging and homogenization), and numerical methods for parameter
identification problems (regularization). We point out the basic diffi
culties that one faces whenever inverse problems are taken into consid
eration.
