If electrolytic hydrogen is produced in large quantities, half as many
moles of O-2 are produced as H-2. While it can be harmlessly vented,
it seems more prudent to explore its possible large-scale utilization.
It could be important in abating the cost of changing over to a hydro
gen energy economy. Such uses include better fuel utilization and redu
ction of noxious emissions in combustion, air beneficiation, and bulk
industrial applications. Analysis suggests that the industrial gases i
ndustry may become an important early mover towards the hydrogen econo
my (for reasons of self-preservation). International Association for H
