Ion-beam mixing of the thermally immiscible systems Fe/Ag and Fe/In by
450- and 600-keV Xe ions was investigated by means of perturbed angul
ar correlation (PAC) and conversion electron Mossbauer spectroscopy. T
he In-111 PAC probe atoms were either implanted into the layers at 400
keV or deposited by evaporation at the metal-metal interface. Using t
hese different methods of doping it was possible to distinguish betwee
n the mixing process at the interface acid ''long-range'' effects. Dif
ferent magnetic hyperfine fields associated with one or two Ag atoms c
lose to the hyperfine probe were identified via both hyperfine methods
. The results are compared with those of a supersaturated homogeneous
Fe(Ag) alloy.
