Abstract
For the 40th anniversary of our journal the Editor-in-Chief A. P. Guly aev asked each member of the editorial board to write a brief article with a retrospective: In the article we were to describe the most inte resting events that have occurred in the field of metals science and h eat treatment during the 40 years of the existence of the journal and our contribution to the development of this science.
