W. Haase et al., MAGNETIC INVESTIGATIONS ON LIQUID-CRYSTALLINE METALLOPOLYMERS, Molecular crystals and liquid crystals science and technology. Section A, Molecular crystals and liquid crystals, 273, 1995, pp. 99-111
In this contribution, magnetic investigations on materials, which esse
ntially combine mesogenic and polymeric properties, were presented. In
the glassy and the smectic phase of a copper(II) containing polymer w
e observed remarkable antiferromagnetic exchange interactions between
the copper centers, whereas in the isotropic phase, the magnetism foll
owed the Curie-Weiss law. The monomeric model compound showed Curie-We
iss behaviour. In addition, we describe the magnetic behaviour of meso
genic compounds, resulting from the incorporation of rare-earth ions i
n chelating units of the liquid-crystalline Schiff base polymer.
