It is shown, by analysis in terms of the eigenvalues of the S matrix,
that the Fano type of transmission resonance in nanostructures has the
same space-charge property as applies to the simple Lozentzian resona
nces. The total space charge in the structure enclosed by the leads, d
ue to filling all electron states (of one spin state) over the energy
range of a narrow resonance, is equal to just one electron charge. (C)
