Iron ions (Fe+) produced from a target by a laser pulse react with vap
our phase phenanthrene or 9-azaphenanthrene in the Fourier-transform m
ass spectrometer by adding consecutively up to 2 or 4 organic molecule
s, respectively. A time delay of the order of seconds, employed betwee
n the laser pulse and mass spectrum recording, is shown to be necessar
y for completion of the reaction, The different types of bonding in th
e compounds formed are discussed.
