Abstract
A magnetostrictive model that shows the influence of epitaxy on the ma gnetic phases of dysprosium is presented. This model takes account of all the relevant magnetoelastic modes (alpha and gamma) and of their t hermal dependence. The calculation permits us to investigate their res pective roles in the ferromagnetic transition. The spectacular shifts of T-c recently observed experimentally in dysprosium epitaxial films are explained through these energy diagrams.
