Abstract
Longitudinal distribution of dissolved nickel and cobalt along the Eng lish coast of the Channel is similar to that previously observed for d issolved aluminium. The exponential decay, as a function of salinity, of the concentration of a relatively conservative element such as nick el strongly supports the hypothesis that significant amounts of dissol ved trace elements could be exported from the North Sea to the Channel .
