M. Hebbara et al., EVALUATION OF WHEAT (TRITICUM-AESTIVUM) GENOTYPES FOR SALT TOLERANCE, Indian Journal of Agricultural Sciences, 66(3), 1996, pp. 142-145
A field experiment was carried out with 11 genotypes during winter sea
son (ragi) 1992-93 and 1993-95 to screen wheat (Triticum aestivum L. e
mend. Fiori & Paol.) genotypes for salt tolerance on saline Vertisols
of Thungabhadra project area. The reaction of genotypes to soil salini
ty showed that at lower salinity (up to 6 dS/m) 'DWR 39' was found the
most promising, followed by 'KRL 1-4'. However, with increase in sali
nity (12-15 dS/m) 'KRL 1-4' along with 'HD 2189' proved better than 'D
WR 39'. Mean threshold salinity for grain yield of wheat remained 5.3-
7.3 dS/m.
