Cj. Rosen et Cr. Kessenich, THE ROLE OF INSULIN-LIKE GROWTH-FACTOR IN SENESCENCE - CLUES FOR INTERVENTIONAL STRATEGIES IN THE ELDERLY, The Endocrinologist, 6(2), 1996, pp. 102-108
The fastest growing segment of our population is the elderly. By the t
urn of the century, 13% of the population in the United States will be
more than 65 years of age. A prime goal of geriatric medicine is to c
ompress the morbidities of aging into as small a period as possible at
the extreme end of life. It has been postulated that restoration of a
''growth hormone axis'' more akin to that which exists in youth may p
lay an important role in this effort. We review the data, pro and con,
that bear on this hypothesis.
