Rs. Chuck et al., RECURRENT CORNEAL ULCERATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH SMOKEABLE METHAMPHETAMINE ABUSE, American journal of ophthalmology, 121(5), 1996, pp. 571-572
PURPOSE: We studied a case of chronic, recur rent, bilateral, corneal
ulcerations associated with smokeable methamphetamine abuse, commonly
known as ''ice,'' in an otherwise healthy 31-year-old woman. METHODS:
Every few months the patient had recurrent corneal ulcerations, Each t
ime, she was hospitalized and treated successfully with topical antibi
otics. RESULTS: Even though she had undergone numerous formal attempts
at drug rehabilitation, she continued to have relapses, and ulceratio
n recurred only during periods of smokeable metham phetamine abuse. CO
NCLUSION: Illicit use of smokeable methamphetamine may result in corne
al ulceration.
