Crown thioethers and their non-macrocyclic analogues have been immobil
ized on a silica matrix coated with omega-(triethoxysilyl)-undecanoic
acid. Thiacrown modified silica carriers were found to be highly suita
ble as complex-forming adsorbents for silver(I) and gold(III) ions und
er dynamic conditions, and application of their complexation affinity
for preparation of solid-state electrochemical sensors based on compos
ite carbon-paste electrodes has been demonstrated.
