Superdeformed bands observed in Ce-131, Ce-132, and Ce-133 have sequen
ces of gamma-ray transition energies that exhibit a Delta I = 2 stagge
ring. This staggering has different characteristics to that seen in pr
eviously known cases in other mass regions. The energy staggering star
ts at low rotational frequency (HBAR omega = 3 MeV for Ce-131) at a ma
gnitude of similar to+/-0.3 keV, dies away to zero at intermediate fre
quency (Aw = 0.6 - 0.7 MeV), and reappears at higher frequencies (HBAR
omega similar to 0.7 MeV).
