As growers move toward sustainable agriculture, pest control will cont
inue to be a major problem; the effect of changes in cultural practice
s (tillage and rotations) on the incidence of foliar and soilborne dis
eases in various cropping systems is discussed. Growers should anticip
ate the emergence of either new diseases or of known diseases becoming
more severe as cultural controls are substituted for chemical control
s and should monitor their crops closely for the presence of disease a
s they adopt the newer management systems. Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier
