Abstract
When a circularly symmetric function with finite support is expanded i nto a series oi Laguerre-Gauss functions the pertaining spot-size can be chosen at will. However, if the series is truncated the choice of t he spot-size affects the truncation error. We suggest a simple rule fo r minimizing the error. The application to the circ function is discus sed in some detail.
