Abstract
There is already considerable evidence that the implantable cardiovert er-defibrillator prolongs life in properly selected patients (remarkab ly, there is no evidence to the contrary). Studies that are under way and those being planned need to focus on other important issues (e.g., clinical and health-economic) rather than on questions that have alre ady been answered.
