Abstract
Aortic valve area determination by transesophageal planimetry and by t he continuity equation was compared with hemodynamic measurements in 4 5 patients with symptomatic aortic stenosis. The correlations between transesophageal echocardiography and hemodynamics were dependent on th e amount of valvular calcium, whereas the continuity equation correlat ed well with hemodynamics in all patients.
