Abstract
Pig farms pollute the soil, water and the atmosphere. Such pollution c an be minimised by the following measures: reduced feeding of protein and phosphorus; use of partly slatted floors; ventilation above floors ; air cleaning; covering stored straw; care in the timing and quantity of slurry spread, and using soil injection of slurry. Many of these m easures are practices by pig farmers. For farms in which more slurry i s produced than can be used on home produced corps, manure should be e xported to other farms. The Agricultural Chamber has developed a pilot project for environmentally safe slurry distribution on farms.
