Abstract
On the basis of the concepts of direct effects of high pressure on int erionic distance, effective charge, coordination number and overlap in tegral the pressure-induced change of lifetime tau for the R1 line in alexandrite was considered theoretically. The calculated tau agreed we ll with all the experimental data in the considered pressure range.
