Dr. Stanley et Ca. Wilson, ABUNDANCE OF FISHES ASSOCIATED WITH A PETROLEUM PLATFORM AS MEASURED WITH DUAL-BEAM HYDROACOUSTICS, ICES journal of marine science, 53(2), 1996, pp. 473-475
Stationary dual-beam hydroacoustics was used to measure the density of
fishes associated with a petroleum platform in the northern Gulf of M
exico from January 1991 through May 1992. Mean monthly fish densities
ranged from 0.19-0.41 fish m(-3). Density varied significantly with pl
atform side, month, and depth. Fish densities were significantly highe
r adjacent to the platform and decreased to background levels al dista
nces greater than 16 m. Approximately 1990 to 28 100 fish were associa
ted with the platform depending on month. (C) 1996 International Counc
