Optical absorption, photoluminescence, and thermoluminescence emission
studies are made on CsCl:Tb3+ crystals at room temperature. The prese
nce of impurities confirmed by the characteristic OA band at 360 nm. P
hotoluminescence of these crystals shows characteristic Tb3+ emissions
due to transitions from the D-5(3) and D-5(4) levels to various level
s of the F-7 septet. The glow curve studies clearly show the participa
tion of terbium ions in the thermoluminescence process. The new 415 K
glow peak, not observed in pure CsCl, is ascribed to the terbium ion i
n the vicinity of F centers. All the TL glow peaks give the characteri
stic emissions of Tb3+ in addition to the emission due to the recombin
ation of the F electron with V-type centers.
