Abstract
The linear stability analysis of the unfactored upwind relaxation-swee ping (URS) algorithm for 3D flow field calculations has been carried o ut and it is shown that the URS algorithm is unconditionally stable. T he algorithm is independent of the global sweeping direction selection . However, choosing the direction with relatively low variable gradien t as the global sweeping direction results in a higher degree of stabi lity. Three-dimensional compressible Euler equations are solved by usi ng the implicit URS algorithm to study internal flows of a non-axisymm etric nozzle with a circular-to-rectangular transition duct and comple x shock wave structures for a 3D chan nel flow. The efficiency and rob ustness of the URS algorithm has been demonstrated. (C) 1996 Academic Press, Inc.
