The solubility of crystalline Nd(OH)(3)(c) was studied in 0.1 M NaCl o
ver a pH range from 5 to 9 at both 25 and 90 degrees C. It was observe
d that at the same pH, the solubilities of Nd(OH)(3) at 25 and 90 degr
ees C were very similar. A thermodynamic model, based on Pitzer's spec
ific ion-interaction approach, was used to interpret the solubility da
ta. The logarithm of the equilibrium constant for the dissolution reac
tion, Nd(OH)(3)(c) + 3 H+ = Nd3+ + 3 H2O, was calculated to be 14.96 a
t 25 degrees C and 14.18 at 90 degrees C, respectively.
