Abstract
Patients with HIV infection have a high risk of bacterial infection. A high index of suspicion for common and less common bacterial infectio ns is needed, together with a flexible approach to diagnosis and thera py. Many infections are characterised by relapse after therapy; long-t erm treatment is frequently required.
