Abstract
Quantitative characteristics of 33 trees and shrubs of Garhwal Himalay a show that some of these species have promising fuel characteristics. A fuelwood-value index has been devised to identify trees, with poten tial for fuelwood production. The most promising species are Murraya E xotica, Schlichera Trijuga, Ulmus Wallichiana, Flacourtia Ramontchi, R ubus Niveus, Callicarpa-Macrophylla, and Eleadendron Glaucum.
