Five novel rare earth complexes RE(2)(NO3)(6)L(2) . nH(2)O have been s
ynthesized, where azolone-4')-1-(4'-aminobutane-1'imino)-5-pentaone, a
new polydentate ligand containing beta-diketone, Schiff-base and NH2
groups, RE=Sin, Eu, Gd, Dy, Ho. They were characterized by elemental a
nalysis, mass spectra(FAB), FTIR, micro FTIR, variable temperature FTI
R and extended X-ray absorption fine structure(EXAFS). The results ind
icate that the complexes are dimer. There are three types of NO3- ions
in the complexes, mono and didentate ligands and just anion as banlan
ce ion. The C=O, C=N and NH2 groups all coordinated to rare earth. The
coordination number is ca. eight. Two nitrogen and six oxygen atoms m
ake up two coordinate layers. The ranges RE-N is around 0.230 similar
to 0.240 nm and RE-O 0.240 similar to 0.250 nm. The preliminary result
s of bioassay show that the compounds have fungicidal activities and c
an regulate the growth of plants, Some complexes have cardiovascular a
ctivities in vitro.
