GOSSYPIBOMA OF THE ABDOMEN

Intra-abdominal cysts may arise from a variety of organs. However, for eign-body reaction and cyst formation should be considered in the diff erential diagnosis. In this report, we describe the finding of a preop eratively undetected gossypiboma. A gossypiboma is a mass within the b ody that is composed of a cotton matrix; in this case, an unmarked lap arotomy sponge. The evaluation, findings, and prevention of gossypibom a are discussed.
