In this paper we use a simple model to study the suppression of the tr
ansverse mode-coupling instability. Two possibilities are considered.
One is due to the damping of particular synchrobetatron modes, and ano
ther due to Landau damping, caused by the nonlinearity of betatron osc
illations.
