Abstract
Carbon-supported Pt-Ru composite catalysts that were dehydrogenation-a ctive for alcohol under boiling conditions were prepared from the mixe d chlorides RuCl3 and K2PtCl4, and from complexes with different charg es [Pt-3(CO)(6)](2-)(4) and [(C(6)Me(6))(2)Ru](2+). The former gave br oad particle-size distributions. A definite relationship between size and composition was elucidated by EDX analysis, namely that Ru-rich pa rticles were small but Pt rich particles were large. As far as 2-propa nol dehydrogenation was concerned, however, the most important factor for catalysis was the Pt/Ru ratio as a whole.
