New platinum-containing catalysts, efficient for the complete hydrogen
ation of unsaturated hydrocarbons based on complexes of platinum tetra
acetate and aliphatic amines, are developed. The kinetics of hydrogena
tion are studied. Using the method of fractional inhibition by carbon
monoxide, it is shown that the possible fraction of the metal involved
in the formation of active centers makes up 20% of the amount of the
platinum introduced. The complex of platinum tetraacetate with tri-n-n
onylamine is found to exhibit a high stability to a prolonged exposure
to oxygen and water. On the basis of the IR-spectroscopic investigati
on of the complexes synthesized, their probable structures are propose
d. The data obtained suggest that the hydride forms of platinum are re
sponsible for the catalytic activity.
