Abstract
The infrared, Raman and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spect ra of 1,8-naphthalimide are presented. The material is studied as evap orated thin solid films, solid matrices in KBr pellets and in aqueous colloidal solutions. The vibrational information also includes FT Rama n and far-infrared spectra. Characteristic normal modes are assigned u sing relative intensities and by comparison with naphthalene. Thin sol id films have been evaporated onto a smooth silver metal film for refl ection absorption FTIR spectroscopy (RAIRS) measurements, and onto a K Br disk for transmission FTIR. The molecular orientation of naphthalim ide on surfaces is discussed using transmission, RAIRS and SERS data o n colloidal silver. The wavelength dependence of SERS intensities for each irreducible representation are shown using three different laser lines for excitation.
