Abstract
The multipole-mixing ratios delta(E2/M1) for 2(2,3)(+)-2(1)(+) transit ions in even-even spherical nuclei are surveyed. The sign of delta for 2(2)(+)-2(1)(+) transitions is found to correlate with the softness a s predicted by the shell model for neutron (delta < 0) or proton (delt a > 0) systems. In the majority of cases, the signs for the 2(3)(+)-2( 1)(+) transitions are opposite to the signs for the 2(2)(+)-2(1)(+) tr ansitions.
